Emily at Freshman Move-in Day

University of Rochester

August 24, 2003

Freshman move-in at the University of Rochester was Sunday, August 24.  The school has a well-organized system for getting almost a thousand freshmen moved in within a few hours.  First, they stage the lines of arriving cars in a large parking lot.  Then, as space in front of the dorm opens up, they release the cars to the dorm.  At the dorm, teams of returning students with carts descend on each car to unload the stuff and put in on the carts to take to the room while the driver takes the car away to another parking lot.

With the rear seat removed from the van, we had lots of space for Emily's rather modest collection of stuff to take to school.
The dorm room has an amazingly large amount of storage space.  Here, Ruth and Emily plot the best storage arrangement.

Steve was in charge of getting the computer set up and connected.
